So you have been thinking lately, of probably pursuing an instrument, You probably have been thinking that your child would be better off adding some skills to his already overworked schedule. Thats great.
You get started and along the road it just seems to go on and on. Learning song after song, piece after piece. You barely got the music correctly and its not as exciting as before...
All these thing are sure to happen. However, sitting for an exam gives a student some order and something to look forward to. It gives some sense of direction and quick attainable goals throughout your music learning period.
Who offers these exams and how does it work?
In Kenya, there are several instrumental exam bodies that offer music exams in the country. The Most notable one being ABRSM. (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music). ABRSM has a wide range of examination services i.e Graded music theory exams, Performance exams and Practical Music exams. These are offered from beginner tests otherwise called Prep Tests all the way to Diploma, Licentiate and Fellowship level.
The Practical exam would have a student tested on their ability to perform a piece. Play scales related to the level of the exam Know how to properly listen to music rhythm and answer questions on it and sight read music. However after the covid 19 situation, Performance grades became popular. Largely due to the fact that it was easy to sign up/register from home and do it from home.
